One Year

I know that I have been inexcusably absent on here, but it has been a year since I first started my blog and I really wanted to come on here for a bit of reflection.

So much has happened in the past year. I feel as though I am hardly the person I was before! I am so much wiser than I was a year ago. I am constantly astounded by my new found confidence and all of the things that I can do. I had no idea that a year of university would change me so much.

There has also been some not-so-great stuff that has happened. Some personal things “went down” with my family over the summer, draining me of my motivation and inspiration. I started to make excuses for myself in many areas of my life, preventing myself from doing things that I genuinely wanted or needed to do.

Not to sound cheesy or anything, but I really don’t want to live like that. I cannot stand how much I talk myself down in certain situations. I really need to put my energy towards positivity and productivity. I’m done with being a lazy downer. I’m going to try much harder than I have been, and not let myself crawl back into bed for the hundredth time.

I’m fine. Time to prove it.

I love the blogging community, because everyone is always so kind and supportive of one another. If you’ll have me, I’d really love to come back 🙂

Sending smiles and hugs and rainbows your way

May Beauty Favourites

I know that this is SO late! Can I even count this as a monthly favourites anymore? Hopefully I can.

I’m going to keep this short and sweet!

1. Original Chapstick

I know this is kind of lame to include in a beauty favourites post. But what can I say? I used it a lot in May and have continued to use it. I was finding some of my other lip balms to be a bit too heavy. This is nice and light on my lips, while still moisturizing them.

2. Rimmel Lipstick in Just So

This is a bit of a rediscovered gem for me. I used to wear it all the time. I’ve had so much fun trying out different lip combos with this lipstick and also wearing it on its own. It’s the type of colour that brightens up your face, and looks natural.

3. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eye Pen

I’ve been loving the classic winged eyeliner look lately. It’s been great to leave my eyeshadow plain and just throw this on. I love it because it makes it easy to get a nice put-together look.

4. Scrunchy

A weird thing to include in a favourites post, but I’m still doing it! I worked a lot in the month of May and really liked using this scrunchy to just throw my hair up and be on my way. I like that it adds something more than just a simple hair elastic.

5. Loreal Nail Polish in Royalty Reinvented

Such a lovely purple. With the arrival of summer, I’ve been getting into painting my toe nails. I love this colour so much. It also works well on the fingernails too!

Product Empties: Would I Repurchase?

I always love to see which products other people can use up. So I thought I would write about the products that I have finished recently. I will also briefly mention my thoughts on the products and whether or not I would repurchase them.

1. Bioderma

Also known as: the best makeup remover ever. I’ve used Bioderma for such a long time to remove my face and eye makeup. It works so well to remove every last speck of makeup and does not irritate my face or eyes.

Would I repurchase? I have repurchased Bioderma many times over the years, but I’m not sure if I will go back to it. I’ve recently tried out the Marcelle micellar water, and I’ve really been loving that!

2. Rimmel Stay Matte Powder

One of my holy grail products over the years. I don’t even think I could count the amount of times I have purchased this. Keeps me matte all day long!

Would I repurchase? I’ve been branching out with my powders a lot more and I’ve found some others that I really like (and that are cruelty-free).

3. Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer

I really like that this moisturizer has SPF in it. It is also very gentle on the skin, and has a nice light scent.

Would I repurchase? I am actually on the lookout for a different moisturizer with SPF. While I like this one, I don’t notice anything amazing about it.

4. Pink Sugar Perfume

One of my favourite perfumes ever. I just love smelling like candy (not everyone’s cup of tea haha). This scent sticks to me for ages. I can’t believe that I can still smell it on me the following day.

Would I repurchase? Of course!

5. Pantene Smooth Hair Serum

I use a hair serum every time that I wash my hair. It keeps my hair soft, and gets rid of any unwanted frizz. This one smells really nice and works well too!

Would I repurchase? I wasn’t particularly wow’d by this, but I didn’t not like it! I would buy it again, but I am also open to trying out different serums.

I have sooo many more products to talk about, but this concludes part 1. I’ll get back to you soon with my thoughts on the rest of the products! Thanks for reading 🙂

HAUL: Cruelty Free Drugstore Makeup

Happy Wednesday!!! Hope you’re all having an amazing day.

You may or may not know that I am doing my best to be more conscious of the products that I buy. I’m putting in more of an effort to support brands that do not test on animals, and I hope to have a completely cruelty-free makeup collection in the near future.

I joined my mom on a shopping trip to Loblaws this evening and found myself wandering over to the makeup section (as per usual). I was so surprised and excited when I saw that they carried brands that are almost impossible to find in Canada: Elf, Milani, and Wet n Wild. I know these brands are super common elsewhere, but they don’t carry them where I usually shop!

So I just HAD to pick up a few things…

1. Wet n Wild Eyeshadow Palette in Comfort Zone

Over the years, I have heard so many people on the internet rave about this palette and I have always wanted to try it out for myself. So when I saw that this was only 4 bucks, I knew it was fate. It has some of the most gorgeous shades. I can’t wait to see the looks that I can come up with.

2. Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso

This post should be titled: “The Internet Made Me Buy It”, because this is yet another item that I’ve heard a lot about online. My favourite Youtuber, Jaclyn Hill, has raved about this blush on numerous occasions. It looks absolutely stunning!!

3. Elf Poreless Face Primer

I’m almost out of the primer that I am currently using, and couldn’t pass up the chance to try out an inexpensive, cruelty-free option! My friend used to use this primer, and she really liked it. So I’m hoping that I like it too!

4. Wet n Wild Contouring Palette in Caramel Toffee

The yellow highlighting powder is what attracted me to this. I love using yellow powders to set my under-eye concealer. I’m so excited to try this out!

Let me know if you have tried out any of these products before, and what you think of them! I’m so excited to do my makeup tomorrow and test out the newest additions to my collection.

April Beauty Favourites

I’m so glad that it is finally May! April was one hectic month. Exams were absolutely insane. But at least they’re done (for now).

Now onto some of the beauty products that I loved using in the month of April.

1. NYC Bronzer in Sunny

I’ve loved this bronzer for years! It is so inexpensive but works so well to bronze up the skin. I’ve recently re-discovered this and I’ve been getting a lot of use out of it lately.

2. Benefit Erase Paste

Yet another product that I’ve recently re-discovered. The bags under my eyes are one of the main reasons why I wear makeup in the first place. This product does a very nice job of brightening up that area and making me feel a lot prettier. I like that I can layer other concealers on top of it. The jar is massive and I don’t know whether or not I’ll be able to use all of it up!

3. Covergirl Eyeshadow Trio in Shimmering Sands

I’ve been reaching for this a lot lately for a quick and easy “no-brainer” eye look. It is so easy to use, but it enhances the eyes in such a natural and pretty way. I’m a fan of shimmery eye looks, but I would definitely stay away from this if you are not.

4. Mac Lipstick in Patisserie

One of my all-time favourite lipsticks. I love the creaminess of Mac lipsticks, and how comfortable they feel on the lips. This shade is so easy to wear and goes with almost everything. I’m definitely glad to have it in my collection.

Hope you had a great April. Thanks for reading 🙂

Weekend Getaway: Niagara Falls

I’ve been to Niagara Falls quite a few times over the years, whether it be for a dance competition, a school trip, or a day trip with my family. But this past month, my boyfriend and I decided to go for a night to celebrate our anniversary.

It was a much needed break from school and the stress of exams. Not only did I get to spend the weekend with my best friend, but I also got to enjoy the Falls. Niagara Falls is characterized as being super touristy, but it can be a lot of fun. We went to the arcade, did a mirror maze, went on the Niagara Skywheel, and a whole lot more. Not to mention all of the yummy food we had (it was a nice excuse to get pancakes for breakfast).

The day we were set to leave, we decided to drive to Niagara on the Lake, a cute little town not too far from the Falls. While we were here, we browsed through the shops, ate ice cream, and had a yummy anniversary dinner. The weather was absolutely perfect for our trip too. The sun was out and the temperature was perfect. We couldn’t have asked for a better anniversary.

Always make time for the ones that you love. You will never regret spending time with those who make you happy.

HAUL: Drugstore!

Exams are getting me down! I hate being thrown out of my routine and into a month of stress and studying. I cannot wait until everything goes back to normal and I have time to work on my blog and do all of the things that I love once again.

A little while ago I purchased some goodies from the drugstore and snapped a few pictures of what I bought. I guess I should title this post “A Forgotten About Drugstore Haul”, because I totally forgot that these photos even existed. Ah well! Better late than never.

Here is my little haul from oh so long ago (about a month ago).

1. Ardell Glamour Strip Lashes

I bought these because I had a dance show (which went really well), and wanted to make sure my eyes would pop on stage. I ended up really loving the style of these lashes and the way they looked on me. I would definitely buy these lashes again because they’re the perfect amount of drama for me. I would wear this style of falsies for a night out or a special occasion. Love them!

2. Ardell Clear Lash Adhesive for Strip Lashes

I also purchased the clear lash adhesive that Ardell makes for strip lashes. And I’ve gotta say…I was really disappointed. Maybe I just picked up an old package? Anyways, I found the glue to be sort of runny. It also did not apply evenly to the lashes; too much would come out, followed by not enough. The only reason I bought this glue was because I left the glue I would normally use at home. I will definitely not purchase this glue again, and will continue to use the Quo eyelash glue whenever I apply falsies.

3. NYX White Eyeliner

I haven’t tried this yet! But I’m 99% sure I’m going to love it. I wear a white/nude eyeliner in my waterline almost everyday to brighten up the eyes, so this will be perfect to achieve the bright look that I go for. I’ve also loved every product that I’ve tried from NYX so I don’t expect to have any problems with this. But I’ll keep you posted!

4. Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

I am obsessed with this thing! I’ve used it to blend out my concealer (or foundation) almost everyday since I bought this. I also mentioned it in my last Beauty Favourites post. It works wonders and blends makeup so well. The sponge is super soft too, which feels really nice on the face. I would definitely purchase this again!

That concludes my mini, forgotten-about haul. I hope you’re all having a wonderful day. And I hope that the weather you have is as beautiful as the weather is here.

Thanks for reading 🙂

Exam Stress…We Can Do It

I am currently taking a quick break from studying for my history exam, which is coming up this Thursday. I think it’s safe to say that I’m at that point where I just want school to be over. The summer is going to be so amazing; I have so many wonderful things to look forward to.

My Summer Plans (thus far):

  • Working full time at my current job for May and June
  • Working as a camp counsellor with 4 and 5 year olds in July and August
  • Selena Gomez concert with my best friend
  • Turning 19
  • Seeing the National Ballet of Canada with friends (one of my friends has never been before)
  • Taking my dad to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra for his birthday
  • Paul McCartney concert (my favourite artist ever!!!!)
  • Having more time to work on my blog!!!!!!
  • Redecorating my bedroom
  • Going camping

I think I must be forgetting some things…

As you can see, I have many fun things to look forward to in the summer. I even have fun things happening this week after one of my exams.

  • My dad’s birthday (and yummy family dinner)
  • Seeing my sister for the first time since February
  • Spending the day with my best friend
  • Celebrating my 4 year anniversary with my boyfriend

I’m getting through exam season by focusing on the positives and using the future as motivation. I know I can do it! I’m putting in the work now so that I can enjoy myself later.

I can’t lie though, it has been hard. I’m so tired from staying up late and waking up early to study. It is also super overwhelming to think about the size of these exams…I have 3 full year courses with cumulative exams. Better get back to studying haha.

Any exam advice for a first year uni student would be appreciated. Best of luck, friends!

Thanks for stopping by 🙂

REVIEW: Almay Get Up & Grow Mascara

I purchased this mascara a while back and just finally got around to using it recently! I’ve been using it almost everyday for about a month, so I think I’ve formed a pretty stable opinion on it. Quick disclaimer: every product works differently for every person!

The Short Version:

  • Lengthens my lashes
  • Wand is easy to use
  • Formula is very dry
  • Easy to layer and add more coats
  • Natural-looking

The Longer Version:

Overall, I find this mascara to be quite nice. It does a good job of lengthening my lashes (as you would hope from the name), and is easy to manoeuvre. In my opinion, this mascara is super natural looking. That can be nice! But I prefer mascaras that give me tons of volume and make me look as though I’m wearing falsies.

The formula is super duper dry! So if you prefer wetter mascaras, this is definitely not for you. I like a drier formula, but this one feels almost a little bit too dry when applying it.

Despite the mascara having “One Coat” in its title, I don’t have any trouble with layering on more coats when doing my makeup. I can also add more coats later on in the day if need be, which is nice.

Final Verdict:

I enjoy this mascara for natural looks. But, since I prefer more dramatic lashes, this is not my favourite! I think this could work well for people who like dry formulas that lengthen and give a natural look. If I had to rate this mascara I would give it a 3/5, because it performs well for its purpose but isn’t exactly what I’m looking for!

Would I repurchase it?

Sadly, no. I know of too many other mascaras that I prefer over this one to justify the purchase.
