May Beauty Favourites

I know that this is SO late! Can I even count this as a monthly favourites anymore? Hopefully I can.

I’m going to keep this short and sweet!

1. Original Chapstick

I know this is kind of lame to include in a beauty favourites post. But what can I say? I used it a lot in May and have continued to use it. I was finding some of my other lip balms to be a bit too heavy. This is nice and light on my lips, while still moisturizing them.

IMG_3996

2. Rimmel Lipstick in Just So

This is a bit of a rediscovered gem for me. I used to wear it all the time. I’ve had so much fun trying out different lip combos with this lipstick and also wearing it on its own. It’s the type of colour that brightens up your face, and looks natural.

IMG_3997

3. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eye Pen

I’ve been loving the classic winged eyeliner look lately. It’s been great to leave my eyeshadow plain and just throw this on. I love it because it makes it easy to get a nice put-together look.

IMG_3995

4. Scrunchy

A weird thing to include in a favourites post, but I’m still doing it! I worked a lot in the month of May and really liked using this scrunchy to just throw my hair up and be on my way. I like that it adds something more than just a simple hair elastic.

IMG_3998

5. Loreal Nail Polish in Royalty Reinvented

Such a lovely purple. With the arrival of summer, I’ve been getting into painting my toe nails. I love this colour so much. It also works well on the fingernails too!

Product Empties: Would I Repurchase?

I always love to see which products other people can use up. So I thought I would write about the products that I have finished recently. I will also briefly mention my thoughts on the products and whether or not I would repurchase them.

1. Bioderma

Also known as: the best makeup remover ever. I’ve used Bioderma for such a long time to remove my face and eye makeup. It works so well to remove every last speck of makeup and does not irritate my face or eyes.

Would I repurchase? I have repurchased Bioderma many times over the years, but I’m not sure if I will go back to it. I’ve recently tried out the Marcelle micellar water, and I’ve really been loving that!

IMG_3190

2. Rimmel Stay Matte Powder

One of my holy grail products over the years. I don’t even think I could count the amount of times I have purchased this. Keeps me matte all day long!

Would I repurchase? I’ve been branching out with my powders a lot more and I’ve found some others that I really like (and that are cruelty-free).

IMG_3191

3. Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer

I really like that this moisturizer has SPF in it. It is also very gentle on the skin, and has a nice light scent.

Would I repurchase? I am actually on the lookout for a different moisturizer with SPF. While I like this one, I don’t notice anything amazing about it.

IMG_3192

4. Pink Sugar Perfume

One of my favourite perfumes ever. I just love smelling like candy (not everyone’s cup of tea haha). This scent sticks to me for ages. I can’t believe that I can still smell it on me the following day.

Would I repurchase? Of course!

IMG_3193

5. Pantene Smooth Hair Serum

I use a hair serum every time that I wash my hair. It keeps my hair soft, and gets rid of any unwanted frizz. This one smells really nice and works well too!

Would I repurchase? I wasn’t particularly wow’d by this, but I didn’t not like it! I would buy it again, but I am also open to trying out different serums.

I have sooo many more products to talk about, but this concludes part 1. I’ll get back to you soon with my thoughts on the rest of the products! Thanks for reading 🙂

HAUL: Cruelty Free Drugstore Makeup

Happy Wednesday!!! Hope you’re all having an amazing day.

You may or may not know that I am doing my best to be more conscious of the products that I buy. I’m putting in more of an effort to support brands that do not test on animals, and I hope to have a completely cruelty-free makeup collection in the near future.

I joined my mom on a shopping trip to Loblaws this evening and found myself wandering over to the makeup section (as per usual). I was so surprised and excited when I saw that they carried brands that are almost impossible to find in Canada: Elf, Milani, and Wet n Wild. I know these brands are super common elsewhere, but they don’t carry them where I usually shop!

So I just HAD to pick up a few things…

1. Wet n Wild Eyeshadow Palette in Comfort Zone

Over the years, I have heard so many people on the internet rave about this palette and I have always wanted to try it out for myself. So when I saw that this was only 4 bucks, I knew it was fate. It has some of the most gorgeous shades. I can’t wait to see the looks that I can come up with.

IMG_3179

2. Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso

This post should be titled: “The Internet Made Me Buy It”, because this is yet another item that I’ve heard a lot about online. My favourite Youtuber, Jaclyn Hill, has raved about this blush on numerous occasions. It looks absolutely stunning!!

IMG_3181

3. Elf Poreless Face Primer

I’m almost out of the primer that I am currently using, and couldn’t pass up the chance to try out an inexpensive, cruelty-free option! My friend used to use this primer, and she really liked it. So I’m hoping that I like it too!

IMG_3182

4. Wet n Wild Contouring Palette in Caramel Toffee

The yellow highlighting powder is what attracted me to this. I love using yellow powders to set my under-eye concealer. I’m so excited to try this out!

IMG_3180

Let me know if you have tried out any of these products before, and what you think of them! I’m so excited to do my makeup tomorrow and test out the newest additions to my collection.

April Beauty Favourites

I’m so glad that it is finally May! April was one hectic month. Exams were absolutely insane. But at least they’re done (for now).

Now onto some of the beauty products that I loved using in the month of April.

1. NYC Bronzer in Sunny

I’ve loved this bronzer for years! It is so inexpensive but works so well to bronze up the skin. I’ve recently re-discovered this and I’ve been getting a lot of use out of it lately.

IMG_3141

IMG_3142

2. Benefit Erase Paste

Yet another product that I’ve recently re-discovered. The bags under my eyes are one of the main reasons why I wear makeup in the first place. This product does a very nice job of brightening up that area and making me feel a lot prettier. I like that I can layer other concealers on top of it. The jar is massive and I don’t know whether or not I’ll be able to use all of it up!

IMG_3139

IMG_3140

3. Covergirl Eyeshadow Trio in Shimmering Sands

I’ve been reaching for this a lot lately for a quick and easy “no-brainer” eye look. It is so easy to use, but it enhances the eyes in such a natural and pretty way. I’m a fan of shimmery eye looks, but I would definitely stay away from this if you are not.

IMG_3147

4. Mac Lipstick in Patisserie

One of my all-time favourite lipsticks. I love the creaminess of Mac lipsticks, and how comfortable they feel on the lips. This shade is so easy to wear and goes with almost everything. I’m definitely glad to have it in my collection.

HAUL: Drugstore!

Exams are getting me down! I hate being thrown out of my routine and into a month of stress and studying. I cannot wait until everything goes back to normal and I have time to work on my blog and do all of the things that I love once again.

A little while ago I purchased some goodies from the drugstore and snapped a few pictures of what I bought. I guess I should title this post “A Forgotten About Drugstore Haul”, because I totally forgot that these photos even existed. Ah well! Better late than never.

Here is my little haul from oh so long ago (about a month ago).

1. Ardell Glamour Strip Lashes

I bought these because I had a dance show (which went really well), and wanted to make sure my eyes would pop on stage. I ended up really loving the style of these lashes and the way they looked on me. I would definitely buy these lashes again because they’re the perfect amount of drama for me. I would wear this style of falsies for a night out or a special occasion. Love them!

IMG_2801

2. Ardell Clear Lash Adhesive for Strip Lashes

I also purchased the clear lash adhesive that Ardell makes for strip lashes. And I’ve gotta say…I was really disappointed. Maybe I just picked up an old package? Anyways, I found the glue to be sort of runny. It also did not apply evenly to the lashes; too much would come out, followed by not enough. The only reason I bought this glue was because I left the glue I would normally use at home. I will definitely not purchase this glue again, and will continue to use the Quo eyelash glue whenever I apply falsies.

IMG_2800

3. NYX White Eyeliner

I haven’t tried this yet! But I’m 99% sure I’m going to love it. I wear a white/nude eyeliner in my waterline almost everyday to brighten up the eyes, so this will be perfect to achieve the bright look that I go for. I’ve also loved every product that I’ve tried from NYX so I don’t expect to have any problems with this. But I’ll keep you posted!

IMG_2803

4. Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

I am obsessed with this thing! I’ve used it to blend out my concealer (or foundation) almost everyday since I bought this. I also mentioned it in my last Beauty Favourites post. It works wonders and blends makeup so well. The sponge is super soft too, which feels really nice on the face. I would definitely purchase this again!

IMG_2804

That concludes my mini, forgotten-about haul. I hope you’re all having a wonderful day. And I hope that the weather you have is as beautiful as the weather is here.

REVIEW: Almay Get Up & Grow Mascara

I purchased this mascara a while back and just finally got around to using it recently! I’ve been using it almost everyday for about a month, so I think I’ve formed a pretty stable opinion on it. Quick disclaimer: every product works differently for every person!

IMG_2890

The Short Version:

  • Lengthens my lashes
  • Wand is easy to use
  • Formula is very dry
  • Easy to layer and add more coats
  • Natural-looking

The Longer Version:

Overall, I find this mascara to be quite nice. It does a good job of lengthening my lashes (as you would hope from the name), and is easy to manoeuvre. In my opinion, this mascara is super natural looking. That can be nice! But I prefer mascaras that give me tons of volume and make me look as though I’m wearing falsies.

The formula is super duper dry! So if you prefer wetter mascaras, this is definitely not for you. I like a drier formula, but this one feels almost a little bit too dry when applying it.

Despite the mascara having “One Coat” in its title, I don’t have any trouble with layering on more coats when doing my makeup. I can also add more coats later on in the day if need be, which is nice.

Final Verdict:

I enjoy this mascara for natural looks. But, since I prefer more dramatic lashes, this is not my favourite! I think this could work well for people who like dry formulas that lengthen and give a natural look. If I had to rate this mascara I would give it a 3/5, because it performs well for its purpose but isn’t exactly what I’m looking for!

Would I repurchase it?

Sadly, no. I know of too many other mascaras that I prefer over this one to justify the purchase.

March Beauty Favourites

Happy April, everybody! It’s officially spring and this is my view:

IMG_2877

We had a huge snow storm last night…but I guess that’s Canada for ya, eh?

Time to get into the products I’ve been loving recently!

1. St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub

I love this stuff. It helps to keep my skin clear and smooth. I notice a difference when I use it! I wake up the next morning with clearer and more radiant skin. I’ve been using this scrub for a while now, and I feel like I’ve barely made a dent in this massive tub.

IMG_2875IMG_2876

2. Prada Candy Perfume

This has been my go-to perfume this month! I love my sweet scents, but I find this one to be more “grown-up” on me (it isn’t straight up sugar like my other perfumes). I also adore the packaging!

IMG_2880

3. Real Techniques Sponge

This thing is amazing!! It blends out concealer and foundation like a dream, and feels so soft. The shape is also really interesting; I like that there is a flat part. I can’t believe I waited so long to buy this!

IMG_2882IMG_2881

4. Smashbox Eyeliner in Stone

I’ve been really lazy with my makeup lately (no surprise there)! I’ve been throwing this on the upper lash line and smudging it out for  quick eye look. I love that it is brown and not too intense on me. It is also a really creamy and lovely formula.

IMG_2883IMG_2884

5. Quo Lip Gloss in Mango

This is a lovely pinky/peachy gloss. I love the subtle colour it gives. I also love the formula! This gloss feels comfortable on the lips and isn’t sticky. It reminds me of spring time and I think I’ll get a lot of use out of it this spring.

What did you love this March?

Revlon Lip Butters!!

I know that I am super late to talk about these since they were really popular on the Internet a few years ago! But I think that they are wonderful products and I wanted to talk about a couple that I own and like using.

Overall:

Revlon Lip Butters seem like a cross between a lipstick (pigmented and long lasting) and a lip balm (smooth and moisturizing). I really like the formula of this product as it is very creamy but does not slip around too much on me.

1. Strawberry Shortcake

This shade is a lovely light baby pink. I wear it quite often, especially when I don’t know that lip colour will go well with a specific look. I find this to be a reliable shade for my colouring; it looks nice with a number of different makeup looks.

IMG_2538

2. Raspberry Pie

I love this shade for fall and winter. It is, as the name suggests, a deep berry shade. It is super wearable and really brightens up the face. I often pair it with a lip liner to make sure it stays in place.

IMG_2539

3. Juicy Papaya

This is more of a spring shade for me. It is a light orange colour, which I was terrified of before! But, surprisingly, it works well and looks pretty nice!

IMG_2535

4. Sorbet

A bright, loud, Barbie pink! To me, this is a statement lip. I really like wearing it when I do minimal eye and face makeup and want to bring the overall look up a notch.

IMG_2536

5. Sugar Plum

I love wearing plum shades all year round. This one isn’t too dark so it still works in spring and summer months. I find that it is natural enough to pair with almost any look. I definitely reach for this shade a lot!!

IMG_2537

6. Gumdrop

This is a light purple shade with some shimmer in it. It is more of a cool tone (something to keep in mind). I really like wearing this because it is so different from a lot of other shades that I own

IMG_2540

Swatches:

Time for the fun part! Everybody loves a good swatch.

New Name, Same Me

Welcome to Blossom With Sarah (that’s me)!

I have decided to change my domain name. If you have read my To Do List, then you may know that I wanted to buy my domain name. Blogging is something that I put a lot of effort into and take very seriously, so I felt as though it would be a worthwhile investment. Long story short, it seemed as though the simplest way to do this would be to change the name of my blog. I am sad to see Bloomify go, but I am so excited for the future and seeing what Blossom With Sarah has in store.

I thought it would be difficult to think of a name that I like as much as Bloomify, but I have done it with Blossom With Sarah. To me, the name means growth and finding yourself and your passions. This blog has been a way for me to write about my favourite things and document my transition into university life. So I feel as though I am tracking how I am blossoming. I want you to be able to grow with me!

I will still post about all of my favourite things (makeup, beauty, skincare, life) but I just have a new name!

Thank you for your continuous support 🙂

Why It’s Important to Take Care of Your Skin While You’re Young

My mother, who will be celebrating her fifty-second birthday this year, was recently mistaken for being 35. What is her secret? While I’m convinced that she has a secret elixir of life hidden somewhere in our home, she insists that taking proper care of her skin is all it took.

For as long as I can remember, my mom has told me the importance of proper skincare and following a routine. I wanted to pass on some of the wisdom that my mom passed on to me. So here are some tips from my lovely mother, to me, to you!

*Warning: My mom and I are two average gals who enjoy taking care of our skin.We are in no way professionals! You know your skin best, so do what’s right for you 🙂

1. Take Off Your Makeup Every Night

No matter what! It isn’t the end of the world if you sleep in makeup every once in a while, but it can be very harmful for your skin to do this on a regular basis. Sleeping in makeup can clog your pores, leading to breakouts. Over time, it can even age you. We all have those nights where taking off makeup is the last thing we want to do. But you’ll thank yourself in the long run if you do!

2. Use a Cleanser

One that is suitable for your skin type, of course. This step can be very important to ensure that every last speck of makeup is off of your skin. Makeup wipes may take the makeup off of the surface, but they do not clean very deep!

3. Don’t Forget About Your Neck

My mom has said this over and over: “Do whatever you do to your face on your neck”. According to my mom, the neck can age quite quickly. So it should be treated the same way that the face is (gently cleansed and moisturized on a regular basis).

4. Moisturize

It’s super important to keep your skin hydrated. Not only will your skin feel super soft, but it will also help to prevent aging in the future.

5. SPF

So important!! The sun can be so harmful, especially for the delicate skin on your face. It doesn’t take very long to slap on some sunscreen. You can even buy moisturizers or makeup that have SPF. You will be thankful later on if you wear sunscreen when you are younger.

I hope that some of these tips have been helpful. Always consider your own skin type and personal needs before trying these out!

Enjoy your weekend! Thanks for reading 🙂
